Kaplan QT5 and QT6 explained
Kaplan's adaptive QT exams: what they measure, how the cutoffs work, and how they compare to UWorld SA.
Kaplan's QT (Question Trainer) series ends with QT5 and QT6, full-length adaptive mocks that serve as Kaplan's main readiness predictors.
What QT5 and QT6 are
Full-length, adaptive question banks that simulate NCLEX behavior. Score is a percentage. Kaplan's internal data shows ~90% pass rate at QT5/QT6 scores of 65%+.
How to use them
Sit QT5 at the end of a serious prep cycle (e.g., end of week 6 on an 8-week plan). Sit QT6 a week before test day. Two scores 65%+ is the readiness target.
Comparison to UWorld SA
Different scoring systems but similar predictive validity. UWorld 'High' roughly corresponds to Kaplan 60-65%. UWorld 'Very High' to Kaplan 70%+.
Common pitfalls
Don't sit QT5 too early, it's not a baseline tool. Don't compare your QT4 score to QT5 expectations; the difficulty calibration differs.
Frequently asked
What's the difference between QT5 and QT6?
Both are full-length adaptive mocks. QT6 is slightly harder and is Kaplan's final pre-test predictor.
How many QTs are there?
QT1 through QT6, ascending in difficulty. Earlier ones are content-focused; later ones are full mock predictors.
