Content review vs practice questions: what's the right mix?

The classic NCLEX prep debate. How to calibrate content review and question practice based on your baseline.

The mix depends on where you start. Pure question-bank prep works for some students; pure content review for none.

Baseline below 55%

Content first. 60/40 content/questions until you're at 60% baseline. Then re-balance.

Baseline 55-65%

Balanced. 40/60 content/questions. Content review targeted at last week's wrong-answer topics.

Baseline 65%+

Questions dominant. 20/80 content/questions. Content review only on specifically identified gaps.

Final 2 weeks regardless of baseline

10/90 content/questions. New content stops at 2 weeks out. Reinforcement only.

Frequently asked

Can I skip content review entirely?

Only if your baseline is 70%+ and you're rebuilding from a recent exit exam. Most students benefit from at least light targeted content.

What counts as content review?

Reading a textbook section, watching a lecture, taking notes on a topic. Question rationales don't count as content review, they're question review.
