Pearson VUE check-in: what actually happens

Step-by-step what happens when you arrive at Pearson VUE for the NCLEX. IDs, palm vein scan, photo, locker, testing room.

Knowing exactly what happens reduces anxiety on test day. The Pearson VUE intake takes 15-25 minutes total and follows the same script everywhere.

Arrival and ID check

Arrive 30 min early. Two acceptable IDs, one must be government-issued with photo and signature. The name on both must exactly match the name on your ATT. Wrong middle initial = denied entry. Check in with the front desk.

Palm vein scan + photo

Pearson VUE uses a palm vein scanner for biometric ID. A staff member takes your photo. Both go on file and are re-scanned each time you leave and re-enter the testing room (breaks).

Locker and items

All personal items go in a small locker. Phones, watches, food, water, jackets, hats. You can access the locker during breaks but not during testing. Bring a sweater you can wear in (test rooms are cold).

Tutorial and start

You're seated at a computer in a partitioned cubicle. The tutorial walks through item types and the calculator. Read it, don't skip. Then the test begins.

Breaks

An optional break is offered around question 30-40 (10 min). Additional unscheduled breaks allowed but the clock keeps running. Re-check-in via palm vein scan to re-enter.
